AlpBC – Interdepartmental planning concepts

From 2012 till 2015

The planning of settlements and buildings, which has to cope with a multitude of challenges such as demographic change, urban sprawl and outdated building fabric, is often divided among many different actors who lack instruments for an optimized cooperation and the integration of existing regional resources. This is where the AlpBC project comes in and aims to develop and implement new cross-community and cross-departmental planning concepts. At the same time, citizen participation, knowledge transfer and the use of regional economic cycles are to play an important role as important elements of a holistic planning strategy. The novelty of the approach is that in the development of supporting tools and methods all participants are equally addressed and traditional boundaries of responsibility are softened. The focus is on “buildings and settlements” with all their aspects independent of administratively created boundaries.

The project will provide the participating project areas with concrete tools to apply these strategies, in addition to the newly developed strategies, which are also transferable to other regions. Thus, the regional identity can be preserved and the spatial development within the regions follows a sustainable and demand-oriented path.
