Researchers on web cartography and geovisualisation at the BeSt fair in Salzburg

On Friday, 22 November 2019, the “fti…remixed Dialogue Event with Researchers and Developers” (fti: Research, Technology, Innovation) took place at the Salzburg Exhibition Centre as part of the “BeSt³ – Messe für Beruf, Studium und Weiterbildung” (Fair for Career, Studies and Further Education), with the two iSPACE researchers Caroline Atzl and Laura Knoth as speakers. A “scientific speed dating” was held there: Researchers each sat at six tables with a research topic they needed for their daily work. iSPACE was represented with a 3D-storymap (live sensor technology for energy use) on tablet. The researchers used this research object to briefly describe their work. Within ten minutes, the students were able to ask the researchers questions about their work, about research in general and about all the topics they were interested in. Then the table was changed until all pupils had the opportunity to ask questions at each table.

“In this way, the students were able to learn that research does not always happen in the lab in a white coat and that there are many different topics,” reports Laura Knoth from the Research Studio iSPACE of the RSA FG.

Participating were students from HTL Salzburg and BORG Oberndorf and other researchers from: AIT – Austrian Institute of Technology, LKR Ranshofen, FH Joanneum University of Applied Sciences, Interfaculty Department of Geoinformatics – ZGIS, FH Upper Austria and Salzburg Research.
