ESRI EDC “Student-of-the-Year” Award goes to Laura Knoth.

Laura Knoth completed her Masters in Applied Geoinformatics at the University of Salzburg in September 2015 with distinction. The master thesis with the title “Spatial Information Infrastructures for Indoor Environments” has now been awarded the EDC “Student-of-the-Year” Award. As an ESRI Development Center, Z_GIS has the opportunity every year to award this prize to a student who has distinguished him/herself through his/her special software development competence.

Their work was concerned with the development and validation of a simple yet comprehensive structure to integrate 2D and 3D building models and real-time data. Both components (building information and real-time positioning) are handled in separate workflows, based on real data: Building plans drawn in CAD (Computer Aided Design) and positioning data from a smartphone app. Both data sources were processed within one workflow in order to be able to be visualized in 2D as well as in 3D. This workflow was implemented using ESRI products (CityEngine, ArcMap, ArcScene, Geoevent Processor, ArcObjects Add-in, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS API for Javascript) and by using Safe FME for data transformations.
