RSA researcher Anna Butzhammer wins the ESRI Young Scholar Award 2018!
Anna Butzhammer has won the ESRI Young Scholar Award for her master thesis in the Applied Geoinformatics program at the University of Salzburg with the title “Modelling intermodal accessibility considering quality aspects of public and private transport – a GIS-based approach for the State of Salzburg”. The award for the outstanding thesis is connected with a participation at the ESRI User Conference 2018 in San Diego and the possibility to present the work there in form of a poster.
In the context of her master thesis at RSA iSpace, Anna Butzhammer designed and prototypically developed a GIS-based planning tool based on a conceptual discussion of different accessibility concepts and intermodal modelling concepts. The tool is based on the ArcGIS Model Builder, which can be used to analyse intermodal accessibility to regional centres in the state of Salzburg, taking into account quantitative and qualitative factors of intermodal mobility options. The development of the prototype was based on the data of the graph integration platform (GIP), the Austrian Transport Information Office (VAO) and Floating Car Data (FCD) as well as on the ArcGIS Spatial Analyst and Network Analyst Toolbox. The development and discussion of the content, methodological and technological components of accessibility modelling, including intermodal mobility options, provides spatial and transport planning and policy advice with an additional transparent basis for improving the accessibility of regional centres and location qualities.
