RSA FG Research Studio iSPACE with “hot” topics climate warming and energy saving at GIS-Day 2019

In 2019, around 800 students were once again in Linz at Austria’s largest event for international GIS Day.

They could inform themselves about various topics from the GIS area (GIS = Geographical Information Systems). A workshop of the RSA FG Research Studios iSPACE – 4D Environments, held in the context of GIS-Day, dealt with the current topics of global warming and energy saving. The students were shown interactively how to measure and visualize their energy consumption with sensor technology and how everyone can contribute to a reduced ecological footprint.

In Salzburg, the topic of energy saving was also in the spotlight: At the Techno-Z in Itzling (iDEAS:lab, Z_GIS) the pupils had the opportunity to learn interactively with a thermal imaging camera where the greatest energy losses in buildings occur. The pupils were then allowed to explore a 3D-storymap on the touch screen to analyse current sensor values in Science City Itzling.

“The students at both locations were able to take away a lot of instructive information and are already looking forward to the next GIS-DAY on November 18, 2020,” said Manfred Mittlböck, head of the RSA FG Research Studio iSPACE – 4D Environments.

The GIS-Day takes place in more than ninety countries worldwide. Companies, educational institutions and public authorities are opening their doors.
