Commuting behaviour between “walkability” and “bikeability” is researched.

The Research Studio iSPACE has successfully completed the project “GISMO – Geographical Information Support for Healthy Mobility” with well-known university partners and companies. The research project was concerned with the investigation of the health effects of incorporating movement into daily commuting between home and work. Pedestrian-friendliness (“Walkability”), cyclist-friendliness (“Bikeability”) and an intact public transport network were the focus of the project. Studio iSPACE developed “concepts for spatial analysis and representation of health-promoting mobility,” reports iSPACE researcher Bernhard Castellazzi.

The project was awarded the mobility prize of the VCÖ (Verkehrsclub Österreich).

The partners:

  • Z_GIS of the University of Salzburg
  • Studio iSPACE of the Research Studios Austria FG
  • University Institute for Preventive and Rehabilitative Sports Medicine at Salzburg University Hospital
  • University Hospital Zurich
