iSPACE implements 4D Geo-Intelligence focus with partners

PALFINGER, Liebherr, COPA-DATA & Mayr-Melnhof

The creation of digital images of the physical environment for Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality allows the localization of assets from logistics and production. Spatio-temporal changes are also recorded with 4D maps. This 4D-Geo-Intelligence has an enormous potential for increasing efficiency and precise control of industrial processes. In the iSPACE research studio of RSA FG, this potential is now being implemented by four corporate partners PALFINGER, Liebherr, COPA-DATA and Mayr-Melnhof in the recently launched “aWHEREness:lab” project sponsored by the State of Salzburg.

Digital images: Replica of the physical environment

The high-resolution 3D and 4D modeling of buildings, assets and plants supports the use of machine data across different company units. A special challenge is the application of the latest international standards and norms of the different application areas in order to facilitate the cooperation between and within companies.

Industry 4.0: Spatial Big Data

The 4D-Geo-Intelligence is intended to solve key issues of Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things (IoT). For example, the switch between different positioning and localization technologies must be seamless. Furthermore, the metadata of crane or wheel loader sensor data, for example, must be harmonized and standardized. The aim is to achieve a sustainable improvement in storage and transport logistics, e.g. in forestry and industry.

To this end, “aWHEREness:fields” will be set up as test areas directly at the company partners in Salzburg, Bischofshofen and Frohnleiten.
