Independence & Cooperations

In 2008, the RSA FG is spun off from the Austrian Research Centers GmbH in the course of its transformation into the Austrian Institute of Technology, with registration in the commercial register on April 15, 2008. The core financing of the RSA FG is secured in 2008 from the funds of the Federal Ministry of Science and Research.

In 2013, this direct funding by the BMWF expires as a result of the conversion of the federal budget to New Public Management principles and the elimination of direct funding of non-university research.

In 2014 and 2015, the core funding of the RSA FG will be provided by the BMWF via an addendum to the performance agreements with the universities of Paris Lodron Salzburg, JKU Linz, TU Vienna and Donau Krems.

Due to the new funding period in 2016, performance agreements are concluded with the universities Paris Lodron Salzburg, JKU Linz and TU Vienna.

In 2018, there is a new ownership by RiskRe Agency for Economic Risk Research, with owner representative Prof. Dr. Christian Helmenstein.

Since 2019, the RSA FG has a performance agreement with the Paris Lodron University Salzburg and the University Mozarteum Salzburg.

Foundation & Development

The RSA FG was founded in 2002 by Prof. DDr. Peter A. Bruck with the aim of acting as a flexible, agile organization to bring research and development (R&D) in the field of digital technologies closer to the speed of innovation cycles in industry, and to make their success measurement dependent on output and impact.

From its founding in 2002 as a division of ARC Seibersdorf Research GmbH and as an innovation project of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labor (BMWA), the RSA FG evolves into a separate research division of Austrian Research Centers GmbH in 2004.

From 2004 to 2006, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labor appoints the RSA FG as a lead project.

In 2006, an international evaluation of the RSA FG takes place by the Rheinisch-Westfälische Institut für Wirtschaftsordnung.
