Research Studios SAT and MoKnowLab develop novel group communication tool

Researchers from the Research Studios Smart Agent Technologies (SAT) and Mobile Knowledge Lab (MoKnowLab) are currently developing a new type of group communication tool called “Spoco”.

“Spoco”, stands for “Spontaneous Cooperation” and is based on the Web of Needs (WoN) technology developed by the Smart Agent Technologies studio.

In contrast to group formation on WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger, Spoco is about creating groups only after “several people have expressed interest in a specific activity,” as SAT studio manager and Web of Needs inventor Florian Kleedorfer explains: “Groups are formed by matching these interests; in the process, social network structures specific to the activity can also be taken into account.

The recently launched project brings together smart agents and gamification competencies of the Research Studios Austria Forschungsgesellschaft, both converging on the aspect of digital (self-)organization of the social. The project runs until the end of December 2019.

Spoco is pursuing two application scenarios and goals:

An Augmented Reality Game
A novel, needs-driven form of advertising

The research project is financed by the creative industries early-stage support programme aws impulse XS of austria wirtschaftsservice (AWS) with funds from the BMDW (Federal Ministry for Digitalisation and Business Location).
