Laser-based coating

Quality management is an important part of manufacturing in the automotive industry: quality is ensured by a highly qualified workforce, which is increasingly supported by innovative assistance solutions. For this purpose, paint defects detected in the painting process are to be visualized and highlighted by laser systems on the car body in the production line. This should enable specialists not to have to identify paint defects manually and to spend considerably more time on correcting the defects within the cycle time. Furthermore, the specialists should be able to deselect already processed errors in the system so that only errors that still need to be corrected are marked.

In the completed demonstrator for laser front projection onto moving car bodies, the required functionalities are now being demonstrated: The digital modelling of the environment with localisation of cameras, lasers and vehicles, the camera-based localisation of the vehicle (Computer Vision, CNN-based), the determination of the most suitable laser for front projection and the projection onto the moving vehicle. For further scaling a modular / network-based implementation of the components is used.

The goal is the development of an assistance system to increase efficiency and quality in the painting process by means of a laser-based interactive assistance system, which visualizes detected production errors via front projection and thus enables a faster and better manual correction.
