Austria’s goal is to be climate neutral by 2040. To achieve this, the Climate and Energy Fund is promoting innovative technologies “Made in Austria”.

At the annual event of the RTI initiative “Vorzeigeregion Energie”, which runs until 2025, an interim balance was drawn up on November 7, 2022 in Salzburg. This year, the stage belonged especially to those women who are active in the three showcase regions. Researchers from science and industry gave an insight into their work, which is also attracting attention beyond Austria through the global research alliance “Mission Innovation”.

Ingrid Schardinger from the Research Studio iSPACE was present at the event to exchange ideas with colleagues and to present projects.

The RTI initiative “Showcase Energy Region” is growing from year to year and can already look back on experience from 80 projects. Model solutions for intelligent, safe and efficient energy and transport systems of the future are being developed and demonstrated. More than 200 partners are on board – from large research institutions to SMEs.

Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler: “The energy transition needs pioneers. These are precisely what we find in the showcase regions. With domestic innovations we relieve the climate and create climate-friendly added value. Green jobs are created in the regions and Austria positions itself as a technological pioneer on the global market.”

The “Energy Showcase Region” initiative shows that an energy supply based on up to 100% renewable energies is feasible, economically viable and ecologically beneficial with innovations from Austria.
