50 students from the Netherlands visit Studio iSPACE.

In the course of their excursion to various geoinformatics organizations in Germany and Austria, 50 master students of geoinformatics visited the studio iSPACE to gain insights into applied research. For this purpose eight lectures were held in two rooms, which introduced the students to various topics and forms of research organization:

At iDEAS:lab Bernhard Vockner presented the RSA FG with the pipeline concept, the studio iSPACE and especially Smart 4D Environments by means of several projects and activities. Johanna Schmitt reported on the results of her recently completed master’s thesis within the Interreg project Urban Green Belts on the quality of urban green spaces. Laura Knoth used THE4BEES as an example to present the iSPACE focal points sensor technology, 3D and data harmonization. Bernhard Castellazzi presented theory and practice of service area modelling based on graph models using an interactive presentation of the stop potential analysis tool.

The round of lectures in the IQ-Lab focused on energy and green mobility: Markus Biberacher introduced the students to the different thematic areas of the iSPACE studio, as well as to the geographical structure of energy distribution, starting at country level and extending to inner-city energy distribution. Anna Butzhammer presented the mobility tools MORECO and the household calculator developed by iSPACE, which can be used to estimate mobility costs. Fabian Hofsäß presented the results of his master thesis on roof shape extraction from lidar data, as well as the project “IDEE” (Integrative Design of Efficient Energy Systems).

The students were very interested in the various topics presented in iSPACE. They were also shown that research can be great fun outside the university.
