The Airport of Salzburg is currently facing many challenges: The consequences of the pandemic, the pressure of competition and the current integration into the transport network require reorientation and investments. Especially in the area of traffic innovative ideas are needed to enable continuous route chains for tourists and commuters to better integrate new offers and thus to reduce individual traffic.

Project Goals

This project aims at developing new scientific, data-technical and decision-supporting fundamentals to support the planning and implementation of future-oriented mobility offers at the Salzburg Airport.

Through the cooperation of partners from research (RSA FG iSPACE, PLUS – IDA Lab) and economy (Salzburg Airport) existing competences are bundled to strengthen the research location and to develop scientific basics and innovative solutions for the regional economy with regard to the airport and other businesses in Salzburg, as well as sustainable tourism (arrival/departure).

Based on harmonized and GIS-supported data models, the multimodal accessibility and general connectivity of the airport will be analyzed. By comparing supply and demand and simulated scenarios in the mobility system, the optimization of accessibility as well as continuous intermodal routes and travel options will be promoted. In this way, the residential population, commuters and businesses are to be included in addition to tourists.

Building on the experience gained from the Haltestelle 4.0 research project (Neumarkt am Wallersee), a “laboratory stop” is to be set up at the airport mobility hub to test and evaluate innovative new developments and technical solutions.
